What is Buffalo Leather?

Here in North America, Buffalo is synonymously used describing the great North American Bison.  Many folks use buffalo and bison interchangeably, but the Asian Water Buffalo and African Cape Buffalo are the only animals that truly claim that name, buffalo.

We enjoy the majestic American Bison in national parks and wildlife preserves in the Midwest part of the United States.  Fortunately, our tannery sources sustainable buffalo hides from ranches across America and they take great pride in preserving their natural and rugged beauty when tanning.

In its natural state, buffalo has a hide that is 2 to 3 times thicker than a steer (cow) hide.   But buffalo leather’s strength comes from not being stretched or sanded during the tanning process.  This tanning process provides a rich, textured look and feel that we find so lovingly beautiful for the ol’ American Bison “Buffalo” leather.
